Blessing Celebrates

Native Garden Corner in Wailea

Friends, colleagues, homeowners and cultural practioners gathered in December at a newly planted garden at the corner of Wailea Alanui Drive and Okolani. Part of the Laʻi Loa project, this garden was planted using native and canoe plants that traditionally existed in this area.

The blessing was lead by Kumu Kamaka Kūkona, a well known kumu hula on Maui as well as an educator, musician, vocalist and song writer.

Honored guests at the blessing included Aunty Hokulani Holt and Uncle Clifford Nae’ole.

About 30 homeowners from Laʻi Loa were in attendance and had the opportunity to tour the newly planted garden, ask questions and learn more about the Hawaiian history in this area.
