Kahu Lyons Naone Shares Significance of Preservation Area

with New Homeowners

The new homeowners at Laʻi Loa were honored to have Kahu Lyons Naone speak to their community with an educational talk story about the ancient history of Paeahu and their kuleana (responsibilities) going forward in their new home.

As a lineal descendant from Honua‘ula and a renowned teacher and educator, Kahu brought a wealth of knowledge, Hawaiian history, and moʻolelo (stories) about this area of Maui in particular.

The talk story aligned with the election of the homeowner board to ensure that the homeowners and new board were aware of the significance of the preservation area and their kuleana to protect and care for this area.

“Kahu Lyons has taught our team a vast amount in the time we have been lucky enough to spend with him,” said Eric Gerlach, Ledcor Maui senior vice president. “We were grateful that Kahu could share some of his knowledge with the new homeowners as it is of paramount importance that, before we hand over the keys so to speak, they understand the importance of this place and especially the preservation area.”

The homeowners in attendance for the talk story were captivated and attentively listened to Kahu during the presentation.

We love to see the homeowners’ genuine interest in learning about the rich history of Maui,” said Naomi Glass, Ledcor Maui marketing and development coordinator. “By offering these opportunities to connect with the stories of the past and ways that homeowners can be a part of the greater community outside of Wailea, we hope to foster lasting ties and awareness of what truly makes Maui, Maui.”

Kahu has been part of the building of Laʻi Loa from the groundbreaking and blessing through to completion, and now the turnover of the new community to a homeowners’ board.
