Throughout the year one of our hard-working team members sits down to answer the 10 big questions about work, fun, life, Maui, life on Maui, and of course, food!
We are pleased to bring you this Q&A with Naomi Glass, Marketing & Development Coordinator
1
If you had one free, perfect day on Maui, how would you spend it? (give us all the details!)
Early morning surf at Launiupoko followed by a dip in Iao with my best friends, cuddle my dogs in the afternoon, bike cruise at sunset then a delicious home cooked dinner.
2
What is your all-time favorite comfort food? (secret family recipes encouraged : )
My grandma’s homemade macaroni and cheese.
3
If you could sit down for a cup of Maui-grown coffee with one person, who would that be? (they don’t have to be alive)
Great question….I’d love to meet Frida Kahlo as she has always fascinated me as an artist and a person. Her or the author Naomi Klein.
4
What is your favorite travel story? (it might be your best travel moment, or it might be your worst!)
Woah, hard to pick one as I’ve had the great fortune of doing a lot of traveling thus far in life. One of my favorite stories would be when I was on tour with my dad’s band in Turkey in 2007 and we had driven for 14 hours from Izmir to Istanbul and we were parked on the street in Istanbul trying to find our hotel. Our Turkish friends had called the hotel and were speaking to the concierge who was giving directions however they could not locate the hotel for over 2 hours. Finally they walked down the road not more than 50 meters from where we were parked and there was the hotel. We could see it from the car!
5
What three adjectives would your best friend use to describe you? (yes, you can ask them!)
Kind, intelligent and passionate.
6
What is one thing about yourself that you would like to improve? (just don’t say you’re a perfectionist)
Not getting upset about circumstances outside of my control.
7
What has been your proudest career moment so far? (maybe an award received, a promotion merited, or just a moment when you felt fulfilled)
Watching all the kids on the Holiday Shopping Day last year as part of our Makana no nā Keiki fundraiser.
8
If you weren’t building communities, what would you be doing? (think early aspirations, designing rocketships, etc.)
Growing up I always wanted to be an architect but as someone who will be a ʻforever learner’ I could see myself getting multiple degrees in different disciplines.
9
What is your favorite Hawaiian word? (why is it meaningful to you?)
This is more of a place name but I love the name Keawakapu because of the meaning and history behind it. This is my favorite beach and the first place I swam when I arrived on Maui. After learning the translation of the name from Kahu Lyons and some of the Hawaiian history that goes with it, I feel more connected to the place and the layers of history.
10
What is something Maui has taught you? (yep, Mother Maui teaches all of us in one way or another)
Maui has taught me so many valuable things but overall I would say be good to the island and the island will be good to you.
