The Uluwehi Project

Screening Wonderful & Informative

In addition to Kū Mai Ka Hula, Ledcor Maui team members attended “The Uluwehi Project” on Sept. 12 in the MACC’s McCoy Studio Theater. This film screening featured a talk story about picking limu and the world-renowned mele “Ka Uluwehi O Ke Kai” written by late renowned kumu hula Edith Kanakaʻole. The filmmaker and presenter was Lanihuli Kanahele, great-granddaughter of Kanakaʻole.

“Tonight I learned the depth and meaning behind a song that I have heard numerous times before and always loved without knowing the translation” says Naomi Glass, Marketing & Development Coordinator for Ledcor Maui. “I have a new appreciation for this mele. The movie was beautiful with the different versions of the mele with hula and how it directly ties with the environment.”

The film is now available for public viewing! To watch and learn more visit: theuluwehiproject.com
