Pā Dedication a Moving Experience
In February 2025, members of the Ledcor Maui team along with cultural advisor Clifford Naeʻole and ʻohana were honored to attend the Pā Dedication at the Four Seasons Resort Maui. At noon, the first hula by Hālau o ka Hanu Lehua under the direction of Kumu Kamaka Kukona was held on this Pā in dedication to the newly created space.
The Pā has been given the name Puʻu waikilanuiokalani which is in reference to Queen Liliʻuokalani who was referred to as the one with the “Puʻu waikila” or the “heart of steel.” Queen Liliʻuokalani was known for her steadfast strength even through the tribulations she endured as Queen.
The Pā is surrounded by beautiful gardens on a terrace overlooking the ocean at the Four Seasons Resort Maui. The plantings were selected and inspired by Queen Liliʻuokalani . As a Pā Noa this space was created for cultural practioners to gather, dance hula and hold ceremonies. As a community space, it is also open for the public to visit.
Aunty Wendy Tuivaioge, Director of Hawaiian Programs at Four Seasons Resort Maui will oversee the area.
