Third Annual Makana no nā Keiki

A Grand Success!

On December 11, 2025 about 75 keiki gathered enjoyed a festive day of shopping at locally owned stores at Queen Ka‘ahumanu as part of Ledcor Mauiʻs Makana no Nā Keiki (Gifts for Children) fundraiser.

The third annual Makana no nā Keiki raised an impressive $82,400, for three local organizations:  Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui (BGCM),  Friends of the Children’s Justice Center of Maui and Maui Youth & Family Services (MYFS), who provide great support for our community and the youth of Maui.

The fundraiser in partnership with ʻĀina Momona and thanks to the generousity of donors, construction partners, local businesses and Wailea residents has raised over $280,000 in the last three years.

Portions of the funds raised were used to provide Maui’s youth with gift cards to shop at Na Koa, Tanoa and Shapers, all locally owned businesses. Maui Gold Pineapple provided fresh, locally grown pineapple as a snack for the keiki. The holiday shopping day gives keiki the opportunity to choose gifts for themselves and their families. For many of the children, the experience offered more than presents—it provides excitement, independence and joy during the holidays.

A special honor and mahalo was given to Paul Tonnessen who will be retiring from the Friends of Children’s Justice Center in May 2026. For 26 years Paul has been involved with the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center, leading with heartfelt dedication and compassion that has chnged countless lives in our Maui community.

“We are deeply grateful to Ledcor Maui for their extraordinary generosity in raising much‑needed funds during the holidays for the children we serve at the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center of Maui,” said Paul Tonnessen, Executive Director, Friends of the Children’s Justice Center. “Their support brings hope and joy to keiki who have endured abuse and neglect, reminding them that our community stands beside them with compassion and care.”

Mahalo nui to all the partners, sponsors and community members who generously donated to the fundraiser and demonstrates the power of community—what we can achieve when we come together with purpose and care.

To support Maui’s youth throughout the year, consider donating to these three non-profits. To learn more visit their websites:

Friends of the Children’s Justice Center – the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center of Maui is a nonprofit corporate founded in 1989 by a nonpartisan group of community and business leaders concerned with the social welfare of children and families who have been traumatized by abuse and severe neglect.
